FINAL SCORE
Winnipeg Jets (4-5-1) 2 Toronto Maple Leafs (6-5-0) 3

OVERALL ANALYSIS
Jets certainly had control of this game. A couple late game mishaps from some tentative play resulted in two quick Toronto goals. Still think Byfuglien or Bogosian is the difference here. They could have created one more goal to put the game out of reach for the Leafs. Enstrom continues his point streak to eight. Postma had an iffy game. Redmond continues to impress, not only with goal, but with hustle and defensive play. Jets forechecked well in this game and even played solidly on the penalty kill. Jets just need that little bit extra maybe from the forwards until those big defenseman come back. Next game is in Ottawa against the Senators on Saturday at 1pm.

FIRST PERIOD
- Jets flying out of the gate, out chancing Leafs
- Not like Panthers game, scoring chances are there
- Still playing solid defense

SECOND PERIOD
- Redmond scores with a snipe short-handed (1-0, 3:32)
- Going to be tough decision to send Redmond back down when Byfuglien/Bogosian come back
- Leafs get revenge with a shorty of their own by Tyler Bozak after Paul Postma makes a puck handling mishap (1-1, 6:21)
- Well, if Postma keeps making mistakes like that Redmond will stay up with the bigs
- Even play by both teams reflected by even score
- Furious pace at the end of the period but both goalies stand strong

THIRD PERIOD
- Clitsome’s point shot surprises Reimer (2-1, 3:46)
- Reimer chose to be in the butterfly at the wrong time and Clitsome’s shot beat him over the shoulder, not sure if he was screened but didn’t look like it
- Pavalec limiting rebounds well.
- Frattin redirects a shot to tie the game (2-2, 14:58)
- Jets completely controlling play up until goal. Frattin just made a great play to get in front of the net and an even better play to redirect it in
- Kessel finally scores his first of the season on the power play (2-3, 15:52)
- Jets PK had been playing well but a turnover at the blue line led to Kessel’s goal

FINAL SCORE
Winnipeg Jets (4-4-1) 3 Florida Panthers (3-5-1) 2 (OT)

OVERALL ANALYSIS
Defensively tight game. Thrill to watch for hockey purists. Either team deserved to win. If this was scored like a boxing match, Panthers won the first and third while the Jets won the second and OT. Even in the first and third though, Jets played so well defensively and got rewarded with a chance to win in overtime where they converted. Game highlights players like Mark Stuart, James Wright, and Ron Hainsey for such tight play making little to no mistakes. Burmistrov had a strong game, constantly hustling and always wanting to get the puck when he didn’t have it. I’ve said it before, reminds me of a poor man’s Pavel Datsyuk and I’ll take that. Zach Redmond impresses, may be a reason to keep him playing when Byfuglien/Bogosian come back. He made some rookie mistakes but you can see the potential in his play as a future Top 4 guy. Postma looking great on PP and defensively. Some tough decisions when our top defenseman come back. Toby Enstrom showed some sand paper in his game too along with his offensive prowess. Next game is Thursday, in Winnipeg, against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

FIRST PERIOD
- Great defensive hockey by both teams
- Jets don’t get shot until 14 minutes into period
- Jets hit the posts a couple times
- Panthers score on the one real big defensive mishap by the Jets (0-1, 18:12)
- Jets seemed fires up after Panthers scored first, unfortunate trend for these Jets
- Jets with only 3 shots on net, missed net 5 times
- Jets won 9/10 faceoffs, that is something to be positive about!

SECOND PERIOD
- Enstrom continues point streak to 7 games with assist to Wheeler, as much as I’ve been harping his defensive mistakes, he’s scoring a whole hell of a lot. Leads the league in points by a defenseman (1-1, 2:28)
- Pavelec screened, lets in Fleischmann’s point shot (1-2, 3:52)
- Burmistrov is playing solid, making lots of hustle plays
- Jets finally get rewarded with a Stuart point shot (2-2, 12:21) Play the result of Burmistrov once again making great hustle plays and a Ladd screen
- Jets heavily out playing Panthers now, more shots, more hits, more faceoff wins
- Jets with the possession and pressure that whole period, Panthers lucky it is a tie game
- Jets have lost games a plenty when they dominate the second period but come out flat in third, let’s see what happens

THIRD PERIOD
- Excellent defensive play again by both teams here
- Jets not breaking down or turnover the puck
- Some might be concerned the Jets aren’t doing anything offensively but really its just been two teams playing solid defensively
- That being said, a few more shots would be nice as the Jets only had two

OVERTIME
- Kane draws a penalty with a great rush to the net, that’s what I like to see!
- Little with an excellent snipe with time winding down (3-2, 4:44)

FINAL SCORE Jets 3 Canadiens 4

OVERALL ANALYSIS

Looks like the Jets can’t have two goal deficits in every game. Got into penalty trouble often. Not enough scoring on the power play. Especially in the third period where the Habs seemed to be trying to shoot themselves in the foot by taking penalties. Again though, Jets show resilience while down. Enstrom’s play has to pick up, two bad games in a row for him. Maybe unfair because he has 7 assists so far this season and perhaps you only notice the mistakes because he’s playing so many minutes with Bogosian injured. Wish the Jets had a youngster or two like the Habs have in Galchenyuk and Gallagher. *cough* Scheifele *cough* Speaking of which, Scheifele a healthy scratch for third game in a row. Pavalec didn’t steal any saves today. Jets simply win when he does that once or twice in a game.

FIRST PERIOD

- Jets look shy on first penalty kill that leads to Habs first goal (0-1)
- Haven’t tested Price through first half of period
- Habs faster team overall, able to limit effectiveness of Jets strong forecheck
- First time watching this Gallagher kid, he looks good, typical Hab – undersized, plenty of speed to make up for it and he scores with a quick release (0-2)
- Solid PP goal by Jets, good cycling (1-2) Wheeler the goal scorer
- Wellwood almost ties game before end of period

SECOND PERIOD

- Antropov ties game on PP (2-2)
- Pavalec letting some rebounds, not costly yet.
- Jokinen catches Price sleeping with snipe (3-2)
- Jets scoring on much fewer chances than Habs, hard to figure out what to take from that (Jets have scored 2 goals on 4 shots this period)
- Erik Cole scores on PP (3-3), Jets taking too many penalties as refs are calling things real tight

THIRD PERIOD

- Plekanec takes lead with another PP goal by Habs. Too many penalties (4-3)
- Habs taking lots of penalties now in third, Jets not capitilizing
- Late penalty by Jets after the refs missed a call on the Habs with less than 4 minutes left. Jets run out of time as a result.

FINAL SCORE Jets 5 Islanders 4 (OT)

Jets dominated most of this game. Just didn’t finish and let the Islanders stick around for too long. Great tenacity to stay focused and come back in he third. 50 minute game out of the Jets. Burmistrov’s best game, handling the puck, shoveling garbage, gritty game. Hainsey’s best game too. Antropov took to the body well this game (all season so far actually). Complete team effort. Jets showing great balance. If this team keeps forechecking this way, they will be a very tough team for anyone to handle. Dominating defenseman combined with physical forward play, great formula. Again though, team needs to finish more to take that next step towards being an elite team.

FIRST PERIOD
- Jets seem to like being down to start games so far
- Nice forecheck leads to Ponikorovski’s first goal
- Burmistrov put on his work pants today – Jets dominating a team they are better than, still tied 1-1 after first.

SECOND PERIOD
- Jets playing a punishing game. Islanders physically cannot keep up
- Nabokov looks like the only good Islander
- Combine that physical play with Kane’s speed, it’s deadly. Forecheck the strength of Jets game.
- Ladd needs to stop the blind passing
- Islanders starting to play (6:22 left in 2nd)
- Montoya has not been challenged since first period goal

THIRD PERIOD
- Danger of this kind of game, just takes one mistake to turn it around. Enstrom has two mistakes that have lead to goals.
- Now Islanders get a solid tip and are making Jets pay for not finishing earlier chances
- Jets flat through first half of third. Islanders made great adjustments to avoid Jets physical play
- Just trust Big Buff’s shot. PP goal, huge to make it a game again
- And Burmistrov’s stellar play, finally gets rewarded with a goal!
- Unbelievable come back, great to see this team not quit

OVERTIME
-Great defensive play by Hainsey to start the goal breakout the other way
- Kane capitalizes from crashing the net as Jokinen takes a great shot.

Final score Jets 4 Penguins 2

Jets played a solid defensive game after Crosby goal. The break downs that did happen, Pavelec was fantastic. This is the brand of hockey Noel has been trying to make this team play for so long. Tough to judge a team 4 games in but it’s hard not to be excited. Byfuglien is playing at a level above what I expected out of him coming into this season. He is starting to make his mark as a true elite player. Pavelec’s athleticism shined in this game. Bonified first line play again out of Kane-Jokinen-Wheeler. Enstrom an unsung hero in this game with his defensive play. Next game is against the Islanders in Winnipeg.

FIRST PERIOD
- Started playing with Penguins, flat since Crosby first goal
- Turnovers turnovers turnovers.
- Jets actually better after Crosby second

SECOND PERIOD
- Byfuglien makes an elite play for that goal. Incredible vision
- Jets kind of flat for awhile scoring
- Great PP goal. Buff open shot, Antropov with great screen
- Jets taking advantage of turnovers
- Jets seemed to have adjusted to limit plays Crosby can make. Plus Pavalec has bailed out the team a couple times
- What a save by Vokoun on Kane

THIRD PERIOD
- Jets blocking shots pretty well
- Even at shots at 26-26 at 15:30 left
- Jets playing well defensively. No pressure the other way either though.
- Pens pressing in last 5 minutes, Jets weathering storm. Crowd is nuts

Complete 60 minute game. Jets had foot on pedal and didn’t let go. Good to see Wheeler score early this season, hope that starts some momentum. Kane showing skills as a playmaker, maybe should focus on that. Finish obviously much better by Jets forwards. Line shuffling by Noel seemed to work today. Not to be understated, this was a win on the road during a back to back. Pavalec showing great rebound control. Wright fits in well with this team. Wellwood a healthy scratch but if Scheifele gets sent back down, Wellwood will fit right back in.

PERIOD NOTES

FIRST PERIOD
- Scoring on power plays. Cool.
- Scoring out of top 6 forwards. Cool.

SECOND PERIOD
- Forwards receiving passes better
- Less noticeable turnovers so far
- Wright looks good
- Kane’s best game. Passing well. Even without fluke goal, still would look good
- Little and Ladd playing well with Antropov on their line
- Wheeler-Jokinen-Kane line looks good. The line I’ve wanted to see, potential to be a true first line
- Enstrom quietly has 3 assists through 2 periods

THIRD PERIOD
- Pavalec making a lot of underrated saves. No rebounds. Looking sharp.
- Solid team defense to prevent the Caps from starting any sort of comeback

Final Score: Jets 1 Bruins 2 (SO)

Great pace to this game. Fun to watch. Matched Bruins physically, that’s a positive. Still too many turnovers but better than last game. Little bit of luck and a little bit of Pavelec’s skill kept the game at a tie. Lots to learn and build from this game. Evander Kane’s lack of finish continues to be frustrating but credit to him for always being in spots where you can comment on his shooting. Accuracy is the one part of his game that if it gets better, he will be elite. Scheifele continues to be able to play, still not enough to keep him away from juniors. Little/Ladd/Wheeler line is very lacking. Off season additions in Ponikorovski and Jokinen continue to impress me, adds forecheck presence not there last year. Thorburn best forward on Jets today, Slater might have been second best. Team has balance in lines, just needs top forwards to score. One goal per game obviously not enough.

PERIOD NOTES

FIRST PERIOD

-Nice to see Jets start games fast
- Jets look faster than Bruins
- Pavalec super sharp to start this game
- Jets still having turnover problems
- Kane, all speed, no finish. Might be harsh but he has to be held at a higher standard.
- Another game that could have been wide open after 1st but Jets still learning to finish.

SECOND PERIOD

- Even period half way through.
- Is Kane leading the league in missed shots?
- Pavalec, combo of stellar play and a little post luck
- Jets slipping as a period closes again, lucky to come away tied into third having basically no possession in last five minutes

THIRD PERIOD

- Postma, way better this game. Although still made his fair share of mistakes.
- Pavalec, great body language this game. Standing tall, confident.
- Fast pace period
- Rask matching Pavelec’s save for save
- Jets actually better in second half of third, look fired up, not frustrated by tie game like they were against Ottawa

OVERTIME
- Fast pace gets faster on 4on4. Both teams playing for win.
- Jets have edge on play
- Wheeler draws penalty using speed and size to drive to the net. He needs to do that all the time.
- Jets definitely could have won it in OT on that power play. Unfortunate result.

SHOOTOUT
- Weakness of Pavelec’s game still
- Seguin scores on Pav staying too far back in net
- Wheeler scores on nice backhand
- Pavalec again lets Bergeron walk in too far, not challenging
- Jokinen misses
- Bourque? Nifty move but he hits Pav in the pad
- Little hits post, Bruins takes shootout 2-1
