Final score: Jets 1, Senators 4
OVERALL SUMMARY
Jets look like the same team from last year. Potential but lack finish both in scoring and in play in the 3rd period. Jokinen looks good out there and his physical presence is nice. Kane was decent, just wish he hit the twine instead of the post. Byfuglien was by far the best player. He didn’t over pinch like he is sometimes guilty of. He played at an elite level but seemed to lack the support. Despite Scheifele getting decent chances, he didn’t finish those and he got pushed around fairly easily. He likes to go to the tough spots though, which is good, but he needs to bulk up so he can stay there. Not yet ready to be a top 6 forward in the NHL. Pavalec had decent game. His last goal he let in was questionable but otherwise he didn’t get much help. Jets next game is in Boston against he Bruins at noon central on Mon, Jan 21st.
PERIOD NOTES:
1ST PERIOD
- Jets with better chances despite less shots
- Turnover ties the game
- Jokinen’s big body has proven already useful
- Jets PP goal result of patience and good puck work that seemed to be missing on PP opportunities after that one
2ND PERIOD
- Jets the better team in the second, just didn’t finish
- Scheifele not skating well enough or physically good enough to belong – still had best offensive chance in period
- Jokinen’s defensive mishap led to goal
- Jets just have to finish
THIRD PERIOD
- Ottawa infinitely better
- Jets let Sens hang around too long then let it go in the third
- Jets didn’t captilize on chances despite playing better for majority of game
- Mishaps near end of periods killed Jets
- Pavalec solid except for that last goal
